Our Junior A side welcomed Kiltimagh Knock Utd to the Green on Sunday morning for our first Super League game of the season. The two teams were evenly matched in the opening exchanges with Sean Shaughnessy pulling off a stunning save early on to keep the game scoreless while Shane Ryan rattled the bar from 25 yards out from a set piece. On 33 minutes the opening goal came from a stunning volley from KK’s Jamil Kezze from all over 30 yards which flew into the top right hand corner of the net. This setback didn’t hinder our lads and just 3 minutes later we were level when Gillan Jennings powered a header to the net from an excellent corner from Johnny Lawrence. 1-1 at the break and we were competing well in our first Super League game.

The second half was another even contest but it was our boys who struck first when JP O’Gorman played a through ball to Jonathan Lawrence who from an acute angle fired the ball between the keepers legs to send the home supporters wild. This joy was short-lived as Lorcan Conroy equalised for KK in the next attack to tie up the game. Both sides cancelled each other out thereafter with Peter Butler coming the closest to winning the game but the KK keeper pulled off a great save.

A good result for Xavi Vazquez and the lads on a great performance in our first game of the season. Our next game is in 2 weeks time when we travel to Concannon Park to take on Claremorris.

Finally a massive congratulations to goalscorer Johnny Lawrence and his wife Louise who gave birth to a beautiful baby girl 14 hours before kick off.
